First-of-its-kind Vietnam Craft Fish Sauce Tasting – Nuoc Yum

Dive into Saigon’s first-ever craft fish sauce tasting—a bold, flavor-packed experience you won’t find anywhere else, exclusively at Saigon Social in the heart of District 1.

Forget everything you think you know about nuoc mam. Guided by a fun, food-obsessed local host, you’ll explore four small-batch fish sauces from Chu Ben, a premium Vietnamese producer known for wild-caught anchovies and slow, traditional fermentation. Think of it like a soy sauce or whiskey tasting—but way funkier and full of umami magic.

Each fish sauce is paired with a surprising dish—from crisp herb salads to juicy seared beef—designed to show off its unique flavor, aroma, and depth. This is not your average spring roll dip—it’s a deep dive into Vietnam’s culinary soul, and a total game-changer for food lovers.

What’s included?

🐟 English-speaking guide who will take you deep into the world of Vietnamese nuoc mam—often compared to Japanese soy sauce for its cultural weight and culinary depth. Learn about its traditional craftsmanship, aging process, and why true fish sauce deserves the same respect as fine wine or artisanal shoyu.

🐟 Guided tasting of 4 small-batch craft fish sauces from Chu Ben, a respected artisanal maker using wild-caught anchovies and slow fermentation techniques. Each sauce has its own distinct aroma, saltiness, and flavor—just like the best soy sauces of Japan.

🐟 Creative food pairings that go far beyond the spring roll—from herb-packed salads to seared beef and other unexpected bites designed to showcase each fish sauce’s unique profile.

🐟 A first-of-its-kind tasting experience in Vietnam, exclusively available at Saigon Social—and the only one in Ho Chi Minh City that celebrates fish sauce as a refined, complex ingredient.

🐟 The experience takes place in a private space in the heart of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

If you are a coffee lover, do this , amazing! Jovel was wonderful. We walked in and were lucky to be able to do the coffee appreciation course straight away. 1 and half hours of wonderful stories, interesting history and delicious tastings. We understand and appreciate Vietnamese coffee culture so much more now.

A tasty and delightful experience! As a mainly craft beer and bourbon enthusiast from the US, I wanted to see what the Vietnam’s craft spirit scene had to offer. Jovel is a lovely lady and host who took us on a tour of Vietnamese craft gin, rhum, ruou, makkoli and beer. She was clearly very knowledgeable about and excited to share the stories behind each spirit/distillery in Vietnam. I was not only amazed by how tasty all of the beverages were, but also how smooth and drinkable the gin and rhum were. I am typically not a fan of either gin or rhum, but I truly enjoyed the one’s we were able to sample. This experience has indeed opened my eyes to what is possible in the realm of craft spirits and I will certainly look to add some of these other varieties of alcohol to my collection. Thanks Jovel!

Great liquor tasting - wide selection, fun space, generous pours, great hostess We did the liquor tasting experience and it was AWESOME! Great variety of products (all Vietnamese) from gin to rum to rice wine to makgeolli. Jovel knows a ton about each distillery and the history of the expansion of craft liquors. Cute spot, well worth visiting to learn a bit more about the history, plus generous pours and fun company.

Informative, tasty, friendly, and fun. I love exploring specialty coffee places so was excited to sign up for this unique caffeine-fueled experience with several friends. It did not disappoint! Jovel and her team provided a top notch event from start to finish - everyone was knowledgeable and friendly.
